“Big Three” Leads Runnin’ Rebels To Division Championship

June 5th, 2007 · By DAVID DEGUZMAN

After losing the first three games of the regular season, the Runnin’ Rebels, the boys’ varsity basketball team, won their last nine and finished first in the division. With a 13- 9 record, the Rebels made an appearance in the Manhattan Borough Championships and also got to the second round of the city playoffs.

Much of the season’s success can be attributed to the combined forces of the “Triple Threat”, namely seniors Tammer Farid, Menley Khuu and Eric Knutsen. Together, “They are the three most dedicated guys on the team and the three most experienced,” said coach Phil Fisher.

The season has been characterized by overtime encounters, close games decided in the closing seconds, and comebacks from deficits as large as 11 points. “There were a lot of exciting games, if you just remember those, and that’s good enough fun for me,” said Farid.
