New Web Site for Juniors Launched

Junior President Philip Kim and Vice President Jenny Han launched a new official website for the class of 2009 (www.stuy09.net) on Friday, February 15. The site was created by sophomore and Information Technology Assistant of the Student Union (SU) Christine Tadare and is currently maintained by Kim and Han.

The site contains information about upcoming school and SU-related events, a list of the students on Junior Advisory Council and Junior Prom Committee, and a forum for registered members. Any registered member may post a comment or begin a new discussion. Kim and Han hope that the forum will allow students to discuss topics and issues regarding the student body.

“We wanted to improve communication between the student body, especially juniors, and the SU,” Han said. “We thought the best mode of communication would be a website. […] Every class but ours has one, and we felt that [having a site] was very necessary.”

According to Kim, the site was delayed because “the actual programming and creation of the site took a lot longer than anyone expected,” he said.

“We had no idea it would take so long. Jenny and I weren’t experienced [...] we’ve never done anything like this,” he said.

Kim and Han also plan on expanding the website by adding a calendar of events, polls about various junior-related issues, and a link for photos that members would post.

“We realize that the site went up late,” Han said. “But we have almost 100 registered members now.”

Kim and Han hope to increase awareness of the site by posting flyers in the school hallways and publicizing it on Facebook. They hope that most juniors will register by April.

Junior Nousin Haque said, “The idea is really good, and I think [the site] can be a really useful tool for [juniors].”
