Juniors Eunju Namkung and Aaron Ghitelman finished second in the Student Union (SU) primaries held on Tuesday, May 27 with a total of 116 votes. They will advance to the general elections on Wednesday, June 4 against juniors Philip Kim and Jenny Han.
Eunju Namkung, who is running for senior caucus president, has been involved with the SU since her freshman year. She is currently the SU co-Club/Pub Director and a member of the Junior Prom Committee. Namking has also been on the Freshman and Sophomore Advisory Council. Her experience in the SU taught her “to communicate with student body,” she said.
Aaron Ghitelman has no former experience in the SU. He is “on the outside, with a different perspective,” he said. Ghitelman said that coming into the SU with no prior experience would enable him to request changes.
“Aaron and I are aiming to hit the spirit token,” said Namkung, describing their platform’s emphasis on creating better opportunities for class bonding. They plan to continue spirit days like Twin Day and even create spirit days such as Mr. Schecter Day to honor the popular substitute teacher. Namkung and Ghitelman are focusing their platform on “cohesions between the students,” Namkung said.
Namkung and Ghitelman plan to create an enjoyable senior year for the 2009 senior class by taking advantage of SU resources and appealing to the greater student body.
Their platform differs from that of Kim and Han in that Namkung and Ghitelman hope to plan school trips to Six Flags or a baseball game.
This is all in an effort to make the 2009 class senior year “the best ever,” Ghitelman said.
