A Beacon for the Arts

With original bronze ticket booths that scream 1920s, one particularly antique and glamorous building stands out amongst

Change in ARISTA Election Process

ARISTA, the Stuyvesant chapter of the National Honor Society, has changed its process for selecting the next members of the Executive Council (EC). This year, the former EC members will select their successors rather than  have the ARISTA members elect them.
“There are many members of ARISTA who are less aware of the organization’s principles, expectations [...]

Sequence of AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics Changed

At the start of the 2009-2010 school year, Advanced Placement (AP) Macroeconomics will be offered in the fall term as a prerequisite for AP Microeconomics, which will be offered in the spring term.
Before the policy change, AP Microeconomics was offered in the fall and AP Macroeconomics was offered in the spring. Both courses were offered [...]

Locker Rooms to be Renovated

Although there are grey clouds of budget cuts that could deeply affect the school’s renowned academics on the horizon, Stuyvesant’s Physical Education department has received a large windfall. The borough of Manhattan has approved a grant of over a quarter-million dollars to purchase new lockers in the locker rooms, which have not been renovated since [...]

Soph-Frosh Semi-Formal Canceled

Principal Stanley Teitel cancelled the Soph-Frosh Semi-Formal this year as a result of students’ behavior at last year’s Semi-Formal. According to Teitel, students had brought liquor to the dance.
Although it was ultimately Teitel’s decision to cancel the Semi-Formal, he said he did consult Coordinator of Student Affairs Lisa Weinwurm about the matter.
According to sophomore Vice [...]

Senior SING! Type(cast)s to Victory

Senior SING! was all about personalities. Jared Dummit’s role as the mythical Firefox in Senior SING! rang bells among those familiar with his strong presence. Sean Gordon-Loebl’s artsy personality was well-represented in his one-line role as an internet hipster. And many in the audience recalled Grace Klein’s equally swell performance as a ‘charming villain’ in [...]

Junior SING! Leaves Few “Marvel”-ings

“Hello? Why aren’t you responding? Guys? That’s so rude of you!” As Aquaman failed to call the creatures of the sea to assist him at any given point, Junior SING!, directed by Annalise Lockhart and Tara Anantharam, failed to elicit a response from the audience because of inadequate sound quality.
Junior SING! was executive produced by [...]

Soph-Frosh SING!: Not a Total Washout

“Cute,” one audience member said after Saturday’s performance of a mediocre Soph-Frosh SING!. With its wide range of political puns, tasteless social cracks and a bathtub theme that almost welcomed ridicule from other grades’ SING!s, Soph-Frosh failed to impress but showed the two grades’ potential for success in the future.
Soph-Frosh opened with a bland introduction [...]

Students Cut from SING! Due to Failing Grades

According to Principal Stanley Teitel, over 60 students were cut from this year’s SING! after receiving unsatisfactory grades on their report cards. Students were first informed of their removal after 10th period on Tuesday, March 17, when Assistant Principal Organization Randi Damesek announced their names over the loudspeaker. They were also notified the next day [...]
