    Boys' Indoor Track Team Runs Away With Boroughs

    As David Shaw, the third of Stuyvesant's 4 by 400-meter relay team, rounded the final turn and headed down the straightaway for home, his teammate, Andrew Hammack, knew that the team still had some work left to do. Sitting in third place in the Borough Championship standings with only a few events left, everyone on the team knew that Stuyvesant would have to excel in the relays in order to pass Martin Luther King Junior and A.P Randolph, and win Boroughs. But in this four-man race, where each runner must complete 400-meters, Stuyvesant was behind MLK, their main rival, going into their last leg of the race.

    Harrison Newman stared straight ahead. About fifteen meters in front of him, the high jump bar sat on its supports, perched a whopping five feet. ten inches off the Armory Track Club floor. All other competitors had finished their jumps. Newman cleared his head, and took a long, deep breath. He had done this height before, plenty of times, in fact.
